Sexy singer, Omawumi Megbele is now a mother. The award winning singer welcomed her first child a girl in faraway America. The name of the child hasn’t been confirmed yet.

Sources close to her notified us that she put to bed early Saturday, June 18, 2011 at 2AM.

Omawumi also stated via Blackberry Messenger (bbm) ‘A child is God’s reward – Psalm127:3B…Welcome sweetie!’,

The identity of the father still remains unknown but sources say the baby father could be the owner of the Lagos club Zamunda.

Yung6ix a.k.a Sixty, was born Onome Onokokwomo JULY 8TH 1989 in the heartland of Southern Nigeria. Though born to the upper echelons of society, he embraced the streets of Warri, Delta State, and was raised by music. Always a musically gifted mind, Yung6ix picked up the mic at a very young age. Studying the rap skills of the greatest mc's, he created a pattern of flows so uniquely distinct that they can never be replicated. He draws his inspiration from his surrounding, and also from diverse collection of genres. While in high school, and after a series of successful rap battles, Yung6ix hooked up with a duo of likeminded artists, and G-squad was formed. The group went on to win a plethora of talent shows in and around southern Nigeria, garnering an ever increasing fan base.
After high school he directed his talents into pursuing a solo career and has recorded over 30 SONGS, not including numerous features, that got him Recognition and the acronym "King of the South".

The future knows no bounds for this Nigerian enigma. Already a role model to the next generation, yung6ix plans to reach beyond the shores of Nigeria, and lead a worldwide revolution in music. He has been described as the next best thing in Nigerian Hip-hop by Industry pundits.

Sanusi's Islamic Bank: Bishops Ask Lawmakers To Block It

Bishops of the Dioceses in the Church of Nigeria Anglican Communion have urged the Senate and Federal House of Representatives not to pass any bill that would make the proposed Islamic bank to see the light of the day.

The Anglican Bishop of Enugu, Rt. Rev. Emmanuel Chukwuma who disclosed this to newsmen in Enugu also warned the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) not to approve the establishment of the bank, insisting that the emergence of a religious bank would pose serious threat to the unity of the country.

Dr. Chukwuma, the bishops and the Primate of the Anglican Church, Most Rev. Nicholas Okoh, had rejected Islamic bank after their meeting recently, saying that they did so because of its “religious connotation.”

The bishops also argued that the CBN was not constitutionally empowered to establish an Islamic bank, pointing out that the bank would contravene the CBN Act.
Bishop Chukwuma disclosed that the Anglican Church would embark on a protest if the apex bank ignores its position on the issue, warning that they would equally pass a vote of no confidence on CBN if it approves the bank.

He insisted that there was no need to establish an Islamic bank in a multi-religious country like Nigeria, saying that the coming of the bank would only cause confusion in the country.
“Nigeria is not an Islamic country. Islamic bank is unconstitutional because it is not in the CBN Act. We reject the establishment of the bank. It has religious connotation. The Senate and House of Representatives should not pass the bill,” he said.

Olive oil may protect against strokes

A diet high in olive oil may help protect older people against strokes, which are the third leading cause of death in the United States after heart disease and cancer. The findings are in a study published in the journal Neurology.

A stroke occurs when an artery within the brain, or leading to the brain, becomes blocked by a clot or bursts. The brain becomes deprived of blood and oxygen carried in the arteries and begins to die.

Strokes become more common as we age – stroke risk doubles for each decade of life after age 55, according to the American Heart Association.

University of Bordeaux researchers examined the medical records and olive oil consumption of 7,625 study participants, which included people age 65 and older from the French cities of Bordeaux, Dijon and Montpellier. None of the participants had any history of stroke when the study began. Olive oil use was classified as “no use”, “moderate use” – meaning using olive oil for cooking or as dressing or with bread, or “intensive use” which means olive oil was used for cooking and as dressing or with bread.

Participants had follow-up exams at 2, 4, and six years and stroke incidents were recorded and verified. 148 stokes occurred after slightly more than five years.
Compared to those who didn’t use olive oil, people who had “intensive use” of olive oil had a 41% lower risk for stroke.

Many previous studies have reported health benefits from eating a Mediterranean-type of diet. "Olive oil is a component of the Mediterranean Diet which has been shown to have beneficial effects on cardiovascular disease and stroke. It can be included in a healthy eating plan as one of the oils that contains the least amount of saturated or bad fat,“ according to Dr. Ralph Sacco, President of the American Heart Association.

However, while numerous studies have linked the eating pattern to health benefits including lower rates of heart disease, cancer, diabetes, Alzheimer’s and Parkinson disease, Dr. Larry B. Goldstein of the Duke [University] Stroke Center, and a spokesman for the American Heart Association, is quick to note that the findings of the Neurology study show only an association between lower stroke risk and eating a diet high in olive oil, not proof that a diet high in olive oil will lower stroke risk. “There’s no reason you shouldn’t use olive oil paired with other heathy lifestyle behaviors including a diet high in fruits and vegetables, maintaining a healthy weight, regular exercise, and not smoking cigarettes,” which Goldstein says are known to reduce stroke risk by 80%.

PORT HARCOURT- FIRST Lady, Dame Patience Jonathan, is among five eminent Nigerians to be conferred with honorary doctorate degrees at this year’s convocation ceremony of the University of Port Harcourt.

Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Joseph Ajienka, who made this known, weekend, in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, said of the 8,221 graduands for the programme slated for June 18, 16 bagged first class honours, adding that the best graduating student, Miss Dietake Oke had a cumulative Grade Point Average of 4.68.

He added that one of the highlights of the convocation will be the launching of a N5bn endowment fund for accelerated development of physical infrastructure and capacity development of the institution.

Minimum Wage: Governor Obi Gives Conditions

Governor Peter Obi of Anambra state and chairman of the South East Governors Forum has given conditions that would pave way for states in the geo political zone to pay workers the minimum wage considering the lean resources that accrue to the states.

He said the ability of states in the zone to pay the N18, 000 minimum wage would depend on federal government’s unconditional review of the revenue allocation formula to enable the states carry on with their responsibilities to the people.

Governor Obi disclosed this while answering questions from newsmen at the Benin Airport in the Edo state capital, Southsouth Nigeria.

Obi explained that the uncalculated and forceful payment of the new wage bill would no doubt bring the states to their knees and in the process the development agenda and provision of basic amenities to the people at the grassroots would definitely be a forlorn dream.

“Without the review it will be difficult for states to pay and be able to continue with any work, unless they are just going to shut down the states and say pay wages and then don’t do anything,” he said.

He also denied the rumnour making rounds that the state chief executives from the geopolitical zone were up in arms with the people by not paying the minimum wage.

It has been widely reported that workers’ affiliate unions, particularly the leadership of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and most of the state governors are out for a showdown over the payment of the contentious new wage as prescribed by the law.

The governors are of the view that resources available to their states would not be able to cater for extra expenditure.

Other governors apart from those in the eastern part of the Nigeria have argued that from available records, states from the southeast geopolitical zone have the least number of civil servants in their ministries.

Governor Obi added further that the South-east Governors Forum at the end of their meeting held last week resolved that they would comply with the law prescribing the new minimum wage but stressed the need for the an urgent review of the existing revenue sharing formula by the states and the federal government.

He said the review of the revenue sharing formula would help the various states to sustain the smooth payment of the new wage bill.

“We said we are committed to the minimum wage as prescribed by law. You cannot talk about the law and talk about what is feasible and what is not feasible. The minimum wage as prescribed by the law is that we must fulfill it but we are also pleading with the federal government to review the revenue sharing formula so as to help us to sustain that.”

He declared: “We are going to obey the law of Nigeria but we are saying that we want help to sustain it.”

He maintained that the federal government should engage the 36 state governors in constructive dialogue with a view to arriving at an agreed compromise.

“I believe that the amendment should be collective as we are all Nigerians, we are urging for a review of it and that has to be done with dialogue and with civility so that everybody can feel it, because what we are agitating for is open to everybody to see, and that is, most states cannot pay.”
